This is Blainor McGough racer #121, living in Maine so obviously she's tough, determined, and independent. A short description of Blainer could be wrapped up as “art and nature lover into spreadsheets, theater, garden design, and vintage motorcycles.” I’ll bet there is so much more than that wicked amazing smile hiding under her Arai helmet and those beautiful vintage inspired Vanson leathers. Beneath the gear, a quiet rebellion, a soul that comes alive when lined up at the start amidst the deafening sounds of engines, throttles blipping. These racers she gathers with all share a mutual love of the anticipation for the wave of the start flag. Flying around the blurred asphalt track, racing new and old friends. This sport is a celebration of speed, history, and beautiful machines.

Blainor is new to vintage road racing and USCRA but is not new to motorcycle riding. The bikes she rides are a Triumph TR6 for everyday, and a Kawasaki EX500 sport bike for racing.

I asked Blainor if she had some advice to pass along to riders who are curious about getting out racing on the track. “Do it with friends, do some track days first. The people at USCRA are friendly and generous.”

When I asked what fuels her on race days, Sandwiches (shared with fellow racers such as Ray #422 in the photo below) and instant Starbucks coffee. Her husband Brian not only is super supportive of her racing habits but also makes her sandwiches for the road, I love that! And about that instant coffee…I have to admit I will take that in a heartbeat over some keureg junk. I’ve been known to stash a few packets of it in my bag when staying with friends who brew weak coffee.

Why vintage moto racing? “I’ve always been drawn to motorcycles and counterculture so it was inevitable” replies Blainor.

Thanks for inspiring others to get out and try something new and sharing a little bit about yourself Blainor. I encourage anyone reading this and finding themselves curious about how to get out on the track to respond in the comments, you will get plenty of support!
There is so much talent and experience among these racers of USCRA, and they are always excited and willing to share their knowledge.

Maybe it’s time to set a New Year Resolution, use your winter wisely! 🏁
